Safety & Sustainability

Do it greener, do it safer, do it smarter.

Sustainability is a priority for us both internally and externally. We strive to make a relevant contribution to promotion of Green Transition and pushing back climate change. The protection of the vulnerable marine ecosystems is a major part of this effort.

Fighting climate change

Equally significant is our work concerning adapting to climate change. Through our coastal defense and riverbank protection activities, we are protecting people and the natural environment from the consequences of climate change, such as rising sea levels and extreme weather events.

Now and in the future, our aim is to lead the industry in developing nature-based solutions to protect and enhance coastal ecosystems. To reach this goal, we seek partnerships and collaboration in various areas.

5 for Sustainability

The sustainability strategy of Boskalis recognizes the following five sustainability focus areas: Climate change, Biodiversity and ecosystems, Local community and development, Employee and talent development and Safety.

It is in all these areas that we want to further innovate and to collaborate to develop and apply new technologies and approaches. Through determined actions, we seek minimize the negative impact and enhance the positive impact of our business.

At Boskalis Hirdes, since so much of our work deals with explosive ordnances, we place special emphasis on safety. Safety is – and must always be – a core value and a top priority for our company.

Do you know NINA?

Since the implementation of our NINA (No Injuries No Accidents) program in 2010, safety awareness at Boskalis has increased significantly. Even more important, as a result of the program implementation there has been a major decline of the Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF).

We are proud to report that since the implementation of NINA in 2012, we have had a drastic reduction in injuries and accidents at Boskalis Hirdes. We are committed to keeping that stellar safety record – also in the future.

We make NINA work everyday

Over the years, NINA has become an inextricable part of our culture. It has stimulated the way in which we work with each other: in open dialogue and collaboration to achieve operational excellence. Our clients are increasingly embracing NINA as best practice, too, and are enthusiastic to participate in our interactive NINA training program.

NINA makes employees aware of their own responsibility towards their safety. The program promotes a working environment in which safety, responsibilities and potentially hazardous situations are openly discussed and reported.
